RSS (News) Feeds

An RSS (news) feed is simply a way of including content that someone else produces directly within your own site. That content could be anything from international news headlines to the weather in a certain area to latest product information or info alerts from an organisation you are partnered with.

You can include feeds from other sites directly within your own site either by adding them to a pre-existing page (useful for pages where you want your own content as well as others) or as a standalone page with only the news feed on it.

How to add RSS Feeds

Adding an RSS Feed Within a Page

  • First visit the site you wish to get the feed from. For example the BBC has many different news feeds you can select these feeds by clicking on their RSS icon RSS Feed
  • Copy the full address for the feed by right clicking on the icon and selecting Copy Shortcut (or similar) example address http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml
  • Go to the website editor and open the relevant page for editing
  • Click within the editable area where you want the contents of the RSS feed to appear
  • Click on the Extras tab along the top
  • Click on the RSS Feed icon RSS Feed
  • Click in the URL box and enter the full RSS feed (if you copied this before then simply press Ctrl-V to paste the URL)

  • Select whether or not you want the date to be shown with each item
  • Click the Insert RSS button (if you can't see it scroll down in the box). The RSS icon will now appear on your page. When you view the live site (and if necessary press Refresh on your browser) the live feed information will appear, e.g.
